Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
