People have assembled around the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most lethal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"The aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the leader stated on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again present a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed state remembrance events until October 16th - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was aired throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' delegations met in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A high-ranking delegate involved in the talks said that an evening round of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The representative stated the morning session finished without tangible results, because of conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not resume combat after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the talks are "tough and have still not produce any significant progress," but pointed out that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the gaps between the two sides.

Key Matters in Talks

  • A permanent truce
  • The swap of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the region

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose family member endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - told: "No place appears as home any longer and until every captive return not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can start to heal," she added.

In front of the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their support for the families of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Activist a participant stated: "We must do any agreement required for the abducted to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be secure."

Research now consistently show that about the majority of Israeli citizens want the war to end in return for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli attacks carried on.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the western district, sector and zone districts and in the eastern district of the community, as well the camp to the northwest.

"When the dusk comes, the fear arrives with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"My family are fearful of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, notably my little child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The medical facility in the urban area said it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said additional dead people had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while seeking help to the south, medics said.
