Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Strives to Resolve the Anime's Biggest Issue
JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not precisely an brand-new feature. Instead, the latest cinematic release from the JuJutsu Kaisen action franchise serves as a collection of the show's sophomore season combined with the first two episodes of its next season, which begins the Culling Games storyline from the original manga. This makes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the first way to view the start of the forthcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The film debuts in cinemas in Japan starting November 7, and in North American regions on December 5.
The Culling Games Storyline
In the Culling Game arc, Top-tier jujutsu user Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the television series and is tasked by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle takes place for the first time on the big screen, and if the artists at the production house have an exceptional piece as the two-part Thunderclap episodes prepared for viewers this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the gift that we've been waiting for.
The Thunderclap Debate
"The Thunderclap sequence" from season 2 is widely regarded as a top-tier scene in animated series lore, notwithstanding the major issues in the previous year when the installments originally aired. It was reported that the artists were suffering from crunch conditions to the extent, and the broadcast edition that aired at the time was not fully polished and reportedly not what the animators originally planned.
The Epic Battle
The episode features a heavily anticipated fight between two elite magic wielders, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It includes experimental animation, excellent direction, and thrilling combat. A follow-up physical media version provided an opportunity to add additional scenes to expand the battle. So it appeared likely Execution could enhance the fight further. However, looking at the recent teaser, it's hard to tell if that fight has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it didn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the biggest screen with the finest quality available.
Season Two Success
The second season of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become the top anime of the year, and when the two-part finale were aired consecutively, it was the subject of discussion for an extended period in the anime community. Audiences were aware of the issues behind the scenes, which made them admire what they witnessed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the Blu-ray, made available on March 18, would feature extra content to the sequence or to see if it was polished at all, and were thrilled to see exactly that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and altered color palette.
The Feature's Advantage
But the home video can only refine what has initially broadcast in the broadcast edition, whereas the film has the potential to properly present the moment with more adjustments and completely new animated sequences.
A Crowning Achievement
As it stands, these episodes act as the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by Mappa, notably because of the issues they encountered at the time. It's drawn the focus of viewers all over the planet, and the Culling Games arc is a highly awaited story of the following year. If Mappa wants to start the year off right, showcase the series' best moment once again in movie houses with the best interpretation we've experienced so far.
