A person who contaminated sweets with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She said the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the police about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities once more.
She said Ruben then played the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
