Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Victory also means he has achieved 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

He defended four early opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
