Several Hurt as In-Flight Disturbance Strikes Delta Plane Arriving in Sydney
Several people sustained injuries after a Delta Airlines jet originating in LA to Sydney, Australia encountered turbulence on Friday morning.
The flight, numbered 41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson informed. Four flight attendants were injured.
Emergency medical services stated they evaluated a total of five people, and transported a trio to hospital with minor injuries that included spinal discomfort and headaches. The patients' ages spanned from their 30s to 70s.
The event represents the latest incident of commercial jets encountering atmospheric disturbance, with researchers pointing out that global warming is a significant contributor.
There were 245 passengers and a crew of 15 on the wide-body jet, the representative said, adding that the plane arrived "safely and normally" at the airport at 06:48 local time on the day in question.
Emergency responders said they got a call just a mere three minutes prior to the plane landed, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.
The reasons turbulence is growing more common - and potentially more dangerous.
