The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they secure the relatively straightforward qualification for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an England men’s fixture since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to stage the Three Lions for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The team are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, in the event of winning their group, their knockout stage opener would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Launch and Rally

The tournament was unveiled at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday night. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were heckled as they arrived the location by about 50 protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5pm.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to family audiences and help reach a broader range of fans.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are due to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would do the same at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that miss out on the finals through the standard process.

Venues and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and The North London arena round out the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be staged in Belfast, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“The event will be a competition for the supporters and a celebration of everything we value about the football – its passion and capacity to unite individuals.”

More than three million passes, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be made available to supporters.
