The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
