The current meetings come after prior discussions in Switzerland where American and Kyiv officials reworked a preliminary US framework for ending the war.

Russia has not yet accepted the most recent iteration of the proposal and is unlikely to accept many of the Ukrainian changes.

Moscow’s top diplomat, Sergei Lavrov, stated that any amended peace plan must adhere to the “essence and wording” of what was agreed during previous high-level talks between both nations.

European officials are apparently struggling to stay engaged in the process as US representatives drive the efforts.

The Finnish president, a European figure, who has emerged as a key contact between Washington and European leaders, stated that the next few days would be crucial in attempts to secure a agreement.

He allegedly held discussions with Kyiv’s leader and the alliance representatives, emphasizing that “The future of Ukraine is for Ukraine to decide, and with European security falling under Europe’s purview.”

Meanwhile, the France’s leader, Emmanuel Macron, warned against a settlement that would amount to a “concession” for Ukraine.

“Terms presented suggest what Russia could agree to. However, must Kyiv and European nations consent to these terms? The answer is no,” he declared.

Specifics of the Initial American Plan

American proposal was originally made up of multiple articles and was drawn from dialog between US and Moscow officials, with input from Kyiv security authorities.

As diplomatic efforts proceed, Russian forces has maintained its nightly assaults on Ukrainian urban centers.

Moscow’s forces allegedly launched dozens of projectiles and many of drones at targets in and around Kyiv, as stated by Ukrainian sources.

The Ukrainian president stressed that Moscow must not feel it could prevail in the conflict while talks were underway.

“What matters most now is that all partners move toward diplomacy together, through joint efforts. Measures against Russia need to produce tangible effects,” he stated.
